A MESSAGE FROM DR NOMBASA TSENGWA

A busy year is drawing to a close and we had plenty to celebrate and be grateful for, our CEO, Dr Nombasa Tsengwa reflects on an xxtra ordinary year.

I am reminded everyday that Exxaro’s success lies in our people who are Powering Possibilities for our business, communities and the planet. Our achievements and the impact we make is only possible because of every person’s hard work and daily contribution to our business – and our outstanding safety and financial results are testament to this.

As I look back at 2022, these are just some of the highlights that I am proud of – there are many more but I’ve limited myself to just 10!

Certified as a “Top Employer in South Africa” for 2022. This is the third time that we have been awarded this honour.

Top 5 Ranking in the 2022 Sunday Times Top 100 Companies Awards. Read more on page 2.

5 years and 5 months fatality free as of 2 August 2022. But let me take a moment too, to share my condolences for the sad loss of our contractor-colleague Mathews Moanalo, who was fatally injured at our Belfast Digital and Connected Mine on 15 August 2022.

Ranked number one for environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance-selected resources company metrics, by the Financial Times Stock Exchange FTSE Russell Index; and ranked amongst Moody’s ESG Solutions’ Best Emerging Market Performers.

Ranked 2nd place in the Best Sustainability Reporting: Metals and Mining category.

More than 89% of employees and suppliers are now vaccinated, exceeding our target of 80%.

Our delegation to COP27, where our top leaders shared Exxaro’s approach to ensuring business resilience in a low carbon world. Read more on page 3.

Successfully translocating 19 white rhinos from South Africa to Zinave National Park in Mozambique through the longest road-transfer of rhinos ever attempted.

Continuing to drive gender equality through our Women Indaba 2022 and many other initiatives in response to the President’s 100-day GBVF challenge.

R699 million contributed to community development and upliftment. Read about our R10 million donation to the Gift of the Givers foundation on page 6.

Finally, thank you for warmly welcoming me into my new position as CEO. Meeting so many of our people as the executive team and I visited all our operations during the #GetOnTheBus roadshows has been an inspiring journey. What a privilege it has been to share the opportunities that our business strategy presents and how all employees can actively participate in the growth and success of Exxaro and our country!
