IS EXXARO
THE 5th BEST
COMPANY
IN SA?

Exxaro is the fifth best JSE-listed company in South Africa, according to the prestigious 2022 Sunday Times Top 100 Companies Awards, which ranked Exxaro fifth for the second year running.

The Sunday Times Top 100 Companies Awards recognises JSE-listed companies for contributing to the economy and social progress through investments, initiatives, and job creation opportunities. The awards also applaud these private-sector companies for achieving the highest returns for their shareholders over the past five years.

In 2021, Exxaro also ranked fifth at the annual awards, having moved up the ranks from 13th in 2020 and 37th position in 2019.

“It is empowering to see the mining industry taking the reins of the Sunday Times Top 100 Companies Awards, and we are appreciative to have been recognised in these prestigious awards for four consecutive years,” said Dr Nombasa.

It’s not surprising that Exxaro has ranked so well, and not just because our asset portfolio grew the half-year group revenue by 48% after a record increase in coal export prices. Several key leadership and strategic factors have contributed to Exxaro’s success. These include successfully navigating change in terms of the early value coal strategy, balancing stakeholder expectations and needs, and factoring various social, environmental, and economic issues into our profitability and competitiveness.

Dr Nombasa couldn’t agree more, saying, “these accomplishments are a testament to our people’s dedication and commitment to making us a competitive and resilient organisation. Because of them, we can fulfil our purpose of powering better lives in Africa and beyond.”

EXXARO EVERGREEN AWARDS CELEBRATE GREEN EXCELLENCE

On 10 October, the first in-person Exxaro Evergreen Awards since 2019 was held at Chez Charlene in Pretoria in celebration of the many green achievers, innovators, and leaders who are helping to “power better lives in Africa and beyond”.

This year’s theme, aligned with Exxaro’s Sustainable Growth and Impact Strategy, asked guests to wear sneakers, to symbolise their commitment to treading lightly on the earth while reducing its carbon footprint.

Simphiwe Mokhonoana served as MC and Exxaro’s CEO, Dr Nombasa, officially opened the day-long event, and spoke to Exxaro’s commitment to Sustainability Management, saying: “now is the time to work together to become carbon neutral by 2050.”

DID YOU KNOW:

Carbon dioxide emissions need to be reduced by 45% by 2026 if we are to survive on this planet. This makes carbon neutrality one of the most pressing opportunities we have today.

Dr Nombasa also spoke to the importance of continuing to foster an inclusive culture at Exxaro, saying: “We want a culture that sparks people to thrive, no matter their colour, age, creed, religion, or rank.”

Congratulations to our Evergreen Award winners for 2022. Here are some of our achievers:
