YOUNG PROFESSIONALS
SHINE AT PIT SYMPOSIUM
Exxaro faces many challenges in the road ahead. That’s why, every year, Exxaro’s top development talent gathers together to present their groundbreaking ideas and innovations at the Professionals-in-Training (PIT) Symposium.
The PIT Symposium, which brings Exxaro’s best and brightest young professionals together, is a highlight on its development agenda. It is here that some of the most urgent and critical challenges are discussed and solved by our future industry leaders. In the end, the ideas and innovations will help Exxaro fulfill its aim of “Powering Better Lives in Africa and Beyond”.
A huge congratulations to our team winners, “The future is female”, and our overall individual winner, Thembinkosi Zulu.

PROJECT: Developing Exxaro core and differentiating capabilities
The project aims to support Exxaro’s transition into a low-carbon economy and realize sustainable socio-economic impact beyond the life of the mine. It does this by ensuring that Exxaro has the relevant future skills and competencies it needs to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing environment. It also devised an operating model to ensure that all segments work in harmony to deliver the set business objectives.
PROJECT: The GG6 yield optimization
Yield is one of the most important KPIs, as it measures the performance of value extraction from a given quantity of feed. The project aims to improve the SSCC (Semi-Soft Coking Coal) yield of the GG6 plant through optimising the GG6 secondary plant (902/903). It does this by improving the cyclone operating pressure and revising the incremental ash quality principle. By maximising yield, the GG6 plant will be able to increase the amount of saleable product and ultimately boost its revenues significantly.
