Have you heard of the “fraud triangle”? Fraud usually occurs when three factors – pressure, opportunity and rationalisation – join to form a fraud triangle.
The logic is simple. When people are under a lot of pressure, they identify opportunities to commit fraud and then justify committing acts of dishonesty by rationalising their behaviour.
Pressure is the key that unlocks the fraud triangle. When the pressure gets too much, it can force previously honest employees to commit fraud.
