EXXARO ROAD RACE CHALLENGE FOR HEALTH

On the 23rd of September, 5 000 Exxaro employees and family members put on their running shoes and set off from the Eco Boulevard Shopping Centre in Centurion. Participants chose to either run or walk the 5km, 10km or 21.1km XX race for health.

As motivation, prize money was up for grabs for the first, second and third places in each of the races and even by age group for the 21,1km and 10km race. But it wouldn’t be a race without medals and Exxaro awarded gold, silver and bronze awards. Gold awards were given to all the winners of each race, silver awards were given to the first 500 places for the 21,1km and 10km race and bronze awards were given to everyone who finished within the stipulated time for each race.

DOCTOR KHUMALO ADDS STAR POWER TO MATLA SPORTS DAY

Matla Coal recently powered up its workforce by holding a fun and exhilarating Sports Day at the Matla Sports Field.

The event, which aimed to promote employee wellbeing by improving cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility, and effective weight management, showcased the many benefits of partaking in regular physical activities, including:

  • Boosted morale, positivity, and enthusiasm
  • Increased employee engagement
  • Stress and anxiety reduction
  • Enhanced problem-solving skills

The event was graced by legendary soccer star Doctor Khumalo, actor Meshack Mavuso, and the renowned Nkululeko Dlamini, also known as “The King of Squats”. The duo engaged with employees in soccer, aerobics, and more, adding star power to an unforgettable day of fitness and unity.

In addition to the sporting extravaganza, Matla also marked Worlds AIDS Day under the theme “Let communities lead.” Employees were encouraged to “unite, fight, and make AIDS take flight” by spreading love, dispelling fear, and knowing their status. A solemn moment was observed and led by Senior Occupational Nurse, Sr Mavis Motshwene, who honoured those affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic with a candlelight vigil.
