EXXARO GETS CYBER SMART
To help employees become cyber smart, our Information Management team at the conneXXion recently held Cyber Security Awareness workshops. Employees were shown how to avoid becoming a cyber-attack victim and encouraged to protect their devices by:
- using strong passwords or PINs
- stop sharing crucial information or identification documents
- avoid opening emails/texts from unknown or suspicious senders
- being cautious when disposing of data
This gives employees the skills they need to stay cyber smart, while enhancing overall cyber security within Exxaro.

It’s Back to Basics at Matla Shafts who kicked off their refocus on safety awareness with a campaign to help workers think about safety in situations where they may have become complacent or not even practice safety. SHE representatives were also given colourful cards to track safety inspections.
BU Manager, Mangaliso Sethethi, kicked off the campaign by emphasising the importance of safety, both at work and home. Sethethi celebrated Matla’s safety and production wins since the beginning of 2023, where there was no scratch-free incident report at Shortwall Move. He also encouraged the teams to continue to #Stop&Fix so they could achieve their target of a LTIFR of 0.05 by the end of 2023 and reach their 2024 safety targets.
- Practice ZERO tolerance at work
- Conduct MINI HIRA before starting any task
- Do not drink and drive
- Be an incredible leader
- #Stop&Fix
- NEVER take short cuts
- Report fatigue to prevent incidents

100 INDIGENOUS TREES TAKE ROOT AT MINE 1
Planting trees is a revolutionary act. Trees clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitats for over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity. That’s why, in celebration of Arbor month, Matla Coal HODs, SHE Representatives and the conneXXion team came together to plant 100 indigenous trees at Mine 1 New Shaft on 23 October. The event was attended by Mongezi Veti, Executive Head of Sustainability, who shared his sustainability insights and encouraged everyone to start taking care of the environment, one tree at a time.
Congratulations to the 40 winners of the Arbor Month competition.
