CREATING INCLUSIVITY WITH PRIDE

Pride is not the only way Exxaro supports LGBTQIA+ equity – a key pillar in Exxaro’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) strategy. The Exxaro LGBTQIA+ Queer and Allies Forum is key to this mission. It was created to support and advocate for the rights and wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, and other gender and sexual minorities at Exxaro. The group is driven by Jonathan Stewart (chairperson), Fifi Selepe (DP) and Stefan Minaar (secretary) but everyone is welcome to join!

Promote education and awareness about LGBTQIA+ issues in the workplace.

Advocate for policies and benefits that promote equity and inclusion for LGBTQIA+ employees.

Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for LGBTQIA+ employees.

Provide a safe and confidential space for LGBTQIA+ employees to seek support and resources.

Build relationships with LGBTQIA+ organisations and allies in the community to support broader efforts for equality.

FOSTERING THE SPIRIT OF ONENESS

On 26 June, the Pioneers of Belfast Mine hosted a bold and inclusive Pride Month celebration at the Plaza, honouring the LGBTQIA+ community under the theme “reflection, empowerment, and unity.”

The event began with a keynote address by Mahlodi Rallele, Belfast Mine’s People and Culture Business Partner, who emphasised the importance of creating safe spaces for everyone to express their true selves.

The morning featured vibrant Pride décor and the activities encouraged participants to reflect on their experiences and biases, empower their LGBTQIA+ colleagues, and promote unity and solidarity.

Pioneers shared stories, connected, and celebrated the progress made in fostering an inclusive culture. The highlight was the Pride-themed tutus and colourful wigs worn by all Pioneers, along with rainbow flags, symbolising camaraderie and pride.

“We are incredibly proud of the inclusive culture we are building at Exxaro and the
commitment of our Pioneers to fostering a workplace where everyone feels valued
and respected. Pride 2024 was a testament to our collective efforts to reflect on
our journey, empower each other, and unite for a brighter, more inclusive future.”
