EXXARO RECOGNISED FOR BEST SUSTAINABLE MINING LEADERSHIP
Exxaro has been recognised as the 2021 Best Sustainable Mining Leadership (South Africa) award winner by the CFI.co (Capital Finance International) judging panel for Climate-Related Financial Disclosure.
When Exxaro published its 2020 ESG report, it scored over 90% on its Climate-Related Financial Disclosures. Exxaro has been on a sustainability journey since 2006, having invested in renewable energies (wind and solar), through wholly owned Cennergi Holdings, and an asset portfolio that includes thermal coal and Ferro-Alloys operations, iron ore and zinc investments. Exxaro is also working with partners on a joint mine de-carbonisation programme.
Key to Exxaro’s sustainability journey is our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our worksites and communities. In 2020, Exxaro achieved above-target on its safety performance.
How did Exxaro boost health and safety during COVID-19?
Exxaro took swift and holistic action to support all its stakeholders, donating to community relief initiatives, offering counselling to employees, extending payment terms for affected clients and even providing some small business loans.
Exxaro set up COVID-19 laboratories at two of its sites. Through ongoing testing Exxaro has tested over 200% of its employees (14 700, including contractors) and vaccinated 81,45% of its employees as of 2 March 2022. It has even sought the certification to extend this vital service to community members.

Exxaro has been recognised as the “Best Regional Enterprise” and our CEO, Mxolisi Mgojo, as the “Best Manager of the Year” by UK-based Achievement Forum Awards, in recognition of Exxaro’s outstanding achievement in the quality and management spheres.
The annual Awards, which are based in the UK, aim to recognise the most dynamic and successful regional companies in terms of their quality and management spheres.
Companies are shortlisted based on extensive research, which includes investigating a company’s standing in the media, social networks, internet, news and open statistic data analysis. The Awards also include recommendations from local authorities, social organisations, institutions, chambers of commerce, branch associations and unions, educational institutions, as well as the expert’s survey.
This is a huge honour for our company and our inspiring leader, Mxolisi Mgojo.
