EXXARO LEADERSHIP SAFETY DAY
SUPPORTS “INCREDIBLE LEADERSHIP”
Exxaro held another successful Leadership Safety Day, making sure we keep strengthening “Incredible Leadership” – one of the five keys pillars of Exxaro’s Safety Strategy.
Every year three Safety Communications events – the CEO Safety Summit, Business Unit Safety Indabas and Leadership Safety Day – are held to support the vital pillar of “Incredible Leadership”.
Due to COVID-19 and event quotas, this year’s Leadership Safety Day was held virtually and physically across all Business Units on 12 October 2021. Over 1 908 employees and contractors attended the event in person, while 730 attended the event online.
The programme kicked off bright and early at 5:30am across all operations with Exxaro’s CEO, Mxolisi Mgojo, and the Chairperson of the Board, Geoffrey Qhena, delivering live addresses, followed by presentations from individual EXCO members to their assigned Business Units.

This year’s Leadership Safety Day focused on:

Acknowledging good safety performance

Highlighting areas of concern and key safety risks

Encouraging continued commitment to maintaining a safe workplace

Raising awareness about the COVID-19 pandemic
Employees were also invited to give feedback on the LetsCONNECT platform. This feedback will be used to improve next year’s event and make it more relevant to the various audiences in attendance.

IT’S TIME TO
rethink
disability
Exxaro’s strength lies in its diversity – having individuals of different strengths and abilities bring new perspectives and fresh ideas into the business. You might not think it, but disability is just another type of diversity in our business.
That’s why Exxaro recently launched the Re-Think DisAbility campaign – to help people rethink their current perceptions
around disability to help create a diverse, inclusive, equitable and safe environment for everyone to bring their whole selves to work.
Did you know: 15% of South Africans have some form of disability.
There are so many misconceptions and stereotypes around the term “disability”. That’s why the campaign is built around creating awareness and sharing
information that will address some of these while helping people to change their behaviour towards a person living with a disability.
On 2 December, the campaign held a virtual “stereotype busting” presentation to help employees Re-think DisaAbility.
Re-Thinking DisAbility starts with understanding that:
- One in four people will experience some form of disability in their lifetime.
- Not all disabilities are visible. Disabilities include all chronic mental or physical conditions like diabetes, chronic pain and dyslexia.
- The most common form of disability is psychiatric and includes depression and anxiety.
Be part of the movement for change. Join the Re-Think DisAbility campaign by fighting negative stereotypes, assessing your personal behaviours and helping Exxaro build an environment where everyone can bring their whole selves to work.
