EXXARO CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF TEAM SPIRIT AT 2022 ABSA CAPE EPIC

Exxaro is proud to be celebrating 10 years of taking part in the Absa Cape Epic cycle race – South Africa’s most epic mountain bike challenge that covers more than 100 km over eight days. With many victories under its name, Exxaro will be sending four teams to this year’s race which takes place from 20 March – Sunday 27 March. This is no small feat. Professional mountain bikers from around the world come to compete in up to 650 teams of two riders each. The race tests both the endurance of the individual riders and their the team spirit. To qualify for a finish, the team must stay together for the duration of the entire race. So it really is a team victory when they cross the finish line eight days later. Exxaro wishes our teams the best of luck in the race ahead.

EXXARO
TAKES

APPROACH
to fraud

Fraud hurts individuals, business and businesses. That’s why we are committed to fighting fraud through the ongoing prevention, detection and investigation of all allegations within Exxaro. The Audit and Assurance team has received over 250 reports between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2021 through Exxaro’s Hotline Reporting system, while 13 cases were reported directly to the team.

What action has been taken?

The good news is that, of all reported allegations, only 20% were found to be credible, which resulted in further action being taken, such as disciplinary inquiries, registering cases with the SAPS, and consequently arrests. All disciplinary inquiries resulted in guilty verdicts. One case, which resulted in a dismissal, was taken to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), where the Commissioner ruled in Exxaro’s favour. Exxaro also reported 94 criminal cases to SAPS, from which 22 arrests were made.
