GROOTEGELUK GETS TO HEART OF WOMEN’S HEALTH

What do breast cancer and Gender Based Violence (GBV) have in common? They both impact thousands of women’s lives and health in South Africa every day. That’s why Grootegeluk Mine recently partnered with the local police service and local businesses to host a Breast Cancer Awareness & GBV Walk. Over a hundred individuals united to raise awareness and hear inspiring stories from survivors. The day concluded with an invigorating aerobics session, promoting a healthy lifestyle while empowering the Lephalale communities. This event wasn’t just a stroll, it was a powerful stride towards a healthier, more empowered Lephalale. Together we are powerful beyond possibilities!

GROOTEGELUK GOES INTO PINK DRIVE

Grootegeluk believes that “health is our true wealth”. That’s why the team proudly partnered with Pink Drive to bring life-saving check-ups, like mammograms, pap smears and prostate-specific antigen checks, to its employees at Yarona Hall on 6 and 7 November. Building on the success of the Stop and Fix safety campaign earlier in 2023, Grootegeluk started encouraging employees to “stop and fix their health”, reminding them that “what you don’t know, you can’t fix”. The latest drive marks Grootegeluk’s third collaboration with Pink Drive, who not only promotes cancer awareness but whose motto is “early detection will help to prolong a life.” The event, which aligns perfectly with Grootegeluk’s commitment to employee wellbeing, saw many employees taking proactive steps to make their health a priority, one vital test at a time. In return, Grootegeluk rewarded employees with yummy smoothies and popcorn on the day.

MAKING YOUR
HEALTH AND WELLBEING

 A PRIORITY

On Tuesday, 10 October, Exxaro hosted a wellness day for everyone at the conneXXion. The day was a fun-filled event, jam-packed with a full range of activities to support employees’ health and well-being. Activities included interesting talks on nutrition, fitness and yoga classes for those feeling active, professionals were on hand to provide all types of medical screening and health risk assessments, and for those needing to be pampered there was massage therapy, barber services, and manicurists and pedicurists. And the day would not be complete without a competition for anyone and everyone who felt their culinary skills were up to being tested. Each team that entered received a mystery basket with ingredients to prepare a specific dish and recipe. A great day was enjoyed by all who joined in.
