CENNERGI DELIVERS FIVE KEY PROJECTS TO THE AMAMFENGU COMMUNITY
It was a day of celebration for Cennergi and the Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust (TWFT), which hosted a ceremony to hand over five key projects to the AmaMfengu community that could not be handed over at the time, due to COVID-19 lockdown regulations.
What is the TCWF and AmaMfengu community?
The TCWF was created by Cennergi (Pty) Ltd, Exxaro Resources’ renewable energy solutions business, to implement and manage socio-economic development and enterprise development projects in Tsitsikamma, Eastern Cape, as part of their drive to empower the local community. The AmaMfengu community is a special stakeholder group, as it is not only a beneficiary community but also a landowner and 9% shareholder within the project. Cennergi is a wholly owned subsidiary of Exxaro Resources.
“At Cennergi, we not only serve an expanding energy market, but strive to build real value for our people, the environment, economy and shareholders. We will continue to serve the communities we operate in, doing everything we can to uplift and empower our fellow South Africans,” says Danie du Plessis, Cennergi CEO.
How has the AmaMfengu Community benefited from these five projects so far?

The restoration of 25 houses in Wittekleibos (to the value of R8.3 million), which were posing a health and safety risk to the occupants.

The construction of a new Snyklip Community Hall
in 2019, which is used for gatherings, church services, funerals, and celebratory events. The new building includes an early childhood development centre and facilitates the training of teachers in the community.

The creation of the NNT women’s poultry initiative in Wittekleibos. Construction started in 2020 and was completed in September 2021. Since 2022, the group supplies one of the largest egg producers in the region, Quantum Foods, using transport vehicles included in the financial grant.

The supply of two center pivots (to the value of R2 million) to the Wittekleibos Development Trust, which represents 152 families who own the Dennegeur Dairy Farm. These pivots have enabled more efficient production of cattle feed, making the Trust more competitive in the commercial market.

Supporting the Wittekleibos Vegetable Tunnels project , by supplying their early childhood development centre’s nutrition programme to the cost of R1.8 million (to date).
