LEEUWPAN MINES’ CAREER EXPO INSPIRES FUTURE GRADUATES
Leeuwpan Mine recently held an action-packed Career Expo for Grade nine learners at the Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Johannesburg. The aim? To educate and inspire young learners to get excited about the many careers that await them in the greater science and minerals field.
On the day, 270 Grade nine learners from 45 schools, including six schools from the Victor Khanye Local Municipality, in the Mpumalanga Province attended the event, which began with presentations from various tertiary institutions.
Later, Leeuwpan Mine employees shared their experiences of the different careers, which included a Professionals in Training (PIT) Engineer, HR PIT, Diesel Mechanic, and a Minerals Resource Management intern.
Sci-Bono also impressed the young learners with a tour of their facilities, a career talk and a theatre show – all dedicated to the wonders and opportunities of science.

Simon Mtsuki, author of The Road to Varsity, encouraged young learners to dream big but also plan big for their futures while offering practical advice to help them make the most of their tertiary journey.
FOOD GARDEN TAKES ROOT IN
OLIEVENHOUTBOSCH SCHOOLS
Learners from Olievenhoutbosch Secondary School got stuck into their food garden alongside volunteers from the Olievenhoutbosch community and Exxaro. The food garden is part of Exxaro’s greater commitment to empowering communities by improving learners’ well-being and academic excellence. Exxaro’s conneXXion volunteer team launched similar food gardens in Sefako Makgatho, Matseke and Kgabo Primary Schools in Atteridgeville with great success in the last two years.
