Belfast Mine recently donated food parcels to the Zamokuhle Disability Centre in Machadodorp.
The Zamokuhle Disability Centre, founded by Lucas Masina, a former Department of Social Development employee who lives with a disability, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities in Emthonjeni, Machadodorp. The centre offers a supportive community and safe haven for these individuals.
At Zamokuhle, individuals with disabilities engage in activities such as art and handicrafts. The centre empowers them through training and workshops, raises awareness of their rights and abilities, and fosters their educational, physical, and psychological development. Zamokuhle also strives to raise funds and resources to support its mission.
The centre relies heavily on the generosity of community-minded individuals and businesses. The mine’s donation will help the centre provide daily meals for its beneficiaries.
“It is companies like Exxaro that care for people with disabilities who cannot provide for themselves.”
Lucas Masina, Zamokuhle Disability Centre Manager
“Exxaro has been vocal in addressing challenges faced by our adjacent communities, and we will continue to support wherever we can. It gives us comfort to know that the centre is thriving and that its beneficiaries will go to bed without an empty stomach.”
Musa Mabasa, Belfast Mine Business Unit Manager

BELFAST COLLABORATION SUPPORTS
EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
BELFAST COLLABORATION SUPPORTS EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
A team from Belfast Stakeholder Affairs, the conneXXion, and various “Pioneers” conducted site visits at Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres in the Emakhazeni Local Municipality. The purpose of the site visits were to strengthen relationships, assess the effectiveness of these centres, and identify their needs.
Exxaro understands that ECD centres are not just educational institutions, but are also nurturing environments that enable children to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. It is for this reason that Exxaro aims to enhance the capabilities of ECD centres by providing essential resources, training educators, and creating safe, stimulating environments for young learners.
Belfast Mine donated educational toys, projectors, blankets, and facilitated in the training of 30 ECD centres, helping them to achieve registration status within the Emakhazeni Local Municipality.

Site visits are key to evaluating and driving:
- Nutrition (food types, preparation, kitchen facilities, garden opportunities)
- Infrastructure and ablutions
- Accommodation for children with disabilities
- Relevance of toys and other resources
By investing in ECD centres, Exxaro will continue to build a strong foundation for individual children to thrive, while unlocking sustainable growth within our host communities.
