EXXARO PLACED IN TOP 10 ERNST & YOUNG MOST INTEGRATED REPORTS 2022

Exxaro achieved 7th place in the 2023 Ernst & Young Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards, which aims to benchmark standards of excellence in integrated reporting among South Africa’s listed companies. While Exxaro slipped two positions from last year’s results, it is the second consecutive year that we have been placed in the top 10.

Being listed among the Top 10 is a big deal. The Top 10 Integrated Reporters are seen to be leaders in sustainability reporting while showing ambitions for more integrated reporting in the future.

The judges commended how Exxaro unpacked its strategic objectives and its roadmap for achieving sustainable growth and impact. “We particularly liked the specific focus within the report on business reliance and how the group uses its intellectual capital to enable its responses to challenges in the market and position the business for the future.”

“Exxaro’s consistent placement in the Top 10 highlights our unwavering commitment to transparency, and sustainability, while positioning Exxaro as a responsible and forward-thinking business leader. I would like to congratulate the entire team for their tireless work and dedication in putting a report together that consistently not only meets, but exceeds, standards of excellence.” Dr Nombasa.

RISING STAR AWARDS

Exxaro’s rising talent was celebrated at the recent 2023 TransUnion Rising Star Awards when Mathews Motswi (Supply Chain Inventory Manager) won the Mining and Minerals category and Pogiso Glen Mthimunye (Digital Value Chain Lead) made the Top Five. Exxaro Resources was the only company to have more than one rising star in the finals. The Mining and Minerals category was presented by Terence Nkosi, Executive Head: SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) and Technical Assurance at Rand refinery Limited, who also sponsored the event.

EXXARO ACHIEVES LEVEL 2 BBBEE RATING FOR THE 2023-2024 REPORTING PERIOD

Exxaro has achieved a Level 2 BBBEE scorecard, with an overall score of 95.52 – the second-highest score in Exxaro’s verification history – and a marked improvement from 90.01 (Level 3) in 2021.

“There was a noticeable gain in points this year, especially on the total BEE procurement from Qualifying Small Enterprises suppliers. Bonus points were realised for the procurement spend with companies having at least 51% black-ownership and for the graduation of an enterprise development beneficiary to supplier development status,” said Dr Nombasa.

How did Exxaro achieve Level 2?

The improved rating is largely due to Exxaro improving its score on the Enterprise Supplier Development (ESD) metric. It did this by achieving a higher Net Profit after Tax (NPAT) than was budgeted for.

Exxaro also improved on the ownership metric, where we increased our score under

Black New Entrants, thanks to our Eyesizwe structure. Increases were made in the participation of black employees and females in junior, middle, and senior management levels, including black employees with disabilities.

We also improved our skills development performance through skills spend on blackdisabled staff and learnership programmes.

These improvements, especially in the management control and skills development metrics, will help Exxaro maintain compliance and progress towards a Level 1 status in the future.

EXXARO WINS DEI CATEGORY
AT TOP EMPOWERMENT AWARDS

Exxaro’s commitment to transformation and empowerment is winning awards and gaining recognition. On July 20th, Exxaro was honoured with the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) in the Workplace of the Year DEI Award at the 22nd annual Top Empowerment Awards, hosted at the Indaba Hotel in Sandton.

These awards, organised by Topco Media in collaboration with Impumelelo Top Empowerment Companies, aim to spotlight

and celebrate companies that are at the forefront of South Africa’s transformation journey and are making a positive impact on both society and the communities in which they operate.

This triumph reaffirms the effectiveness of our DE&I strategy and how, together with our Sustainable Growth and Impact business strategy, we are creating a more diverse and inclusive corporate environment that empowers individuals from all backgrounds.

“The strategy enables our employees to achieve our goals by recognising that our focus on diversity, equity and inclusion is a business imperative. It encourages changes in attitude, behaviour, and ways of working to address systemic barriers, creating a conducive environment for employees to thrive,” Mongezi Veti, Exxaro’s Chief Sustainable Impact Officer.
