CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
Exxaro recently joined The Minerals Council of South Africa (MCSA) and Women in Mining (WIM) to celebrate International Women’s Day on 7 March at a morning event themed #Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.
Galaletsang Legodi, Exxaro Women in Mining Coordination, served as programme director and praised the dynamic women in attendance saying, “What an honour to be in the presence of greatness.”
The theme was further brought to life by the keynote speaker, Dr Futhi Mtoba, Co-Chair of the Women’s Economic Assembly, giving her insights into why investing in women is critical to accelerating progress in key industries like mining. To this point, a panel discussion was later held to unpack the mining sector’s strategic outlook. Safety was also celebrated during the event, with WIM’s Safety Heroes campaign honouring ten inspirational women and their contributions to workplace safety.
During the event, Exxaro reaffirmed its commitment to investing in women, while joining the call to create more equitable, diverse and inclusive workplaces, industries and societies.

NOELLA SHINES A LIGHT FOR YOUTH AT POWER
AFRICA SUMMIT IN WASHINGTON
Noella Molefe, Exxaro’s Air Quality Senior Expert is putting women, the youth and Africa at the top of the climate change agenda, having recently represented Exxaro at the Power Africa Summit (PAS24) in Washington DC.
The PAS24 Summit aims to bring USA-based investors and African decisionmakers and experts together to ensure that Africa gets the level of finance it needs to create and support new energy projects. This year’s summit, which was themed ‘Capital flows underpinning the energy transition’, provided a platform for global discussions on the future of energy and climate action.
“The PAS24 Summit set the stage for discussing the vast opportunities for development in Africa and served as a catalyst for action.”
Noella Molefe

Noella actively participated in three panel discussions
“Youth energy summit” – as a founding member of the Youth Energy Summit (YES), Noella focused on the need to upscale youth employment in Africa.
“Women are leading Africa’s Just Energy Transition” – Noella highlighted the crucial role that women play in achieving net-zero and green growth targets in Africa and emphasised Exxaro’s commitment to transitioning to a renewable energy and minerals business in a just and equitable manner.
“African Climate Summit (ACS) and COP28” – Here Noella emphasised the need to empower young people and ensure that their voices are heard in high-level conversations and also highlighted the importance of starting from the ground up to fully realise the potential of new climate finance initiatives.
