SA MINING
HALL OF FAME
HONOURS
MXOLISI MGOJO
Exxaro’s leaders continue to be a valued asset to the South African mining industry. This was evident when Mxolisi Mgojo, Exxaro’s former CEO, was inducted into the Joburg Indaba SA Mining Hall of Fame on 4 October 2022 at the annual gala dinner. The Joburg Indaba SA Mining Hall of Fame was launched in 2016 to recognise and honour some of the legendary individuals, like Mgojo, who have greatly influenced and shaped the South African mining industry since democracy.

“The shift to clean energy and a low carbon economy is imperative for our business and country. As an organisation, we take pride in our ability to respond to the challenges we face and finding solutions that meet our stakeholders’ current and future needs and expectations,” said Mzila Mthenjane.
Mthenjane explained how Exxaro is exploring new approaches to community development, such as mineral succession rather than mine closure, and how this will create new industries and skills that will drive local economic development beyond mining.

“We are continuously working towards ensuring a safer and more sustainable tomorrow for our business, communities, and economy at large. From how we mine to what we mine, we are stewarding our resources to have a lasting positive environmental, social and governance (ESG) impact,” he added.
