EXXARO RATES HIGHLY ON 2023 BLOOMBERG GENDER-EQUALITY INDEX

Exxaro was recognised in the 2023 Bloomberg Gender Equity Initiative (GEI) for the fourth consecutive year! This is testament to our commitment to making gender equality and inclusion a business priority.
“Creating a safe, diverse and equitable working environment is of paramount importance to Exxaro. It is encouraging to know that we maintain such a high gender equity score, especially being a company in a traditionally male-dominated industry,” said a proud Dr Nombasa.
Bloomberg’s Gender Reporting Framework uses a standardised global reporting method
to acquire comprehensive workplace gender data to determine a company’s progress towards equal representation of gender across all roles and levels.
Being included on this prestigious list is more than just a pat on the back. It’s an opportunity to change the industry. Hemuna Bhola, Exxaro’s Acting Executive Head for HR, hopes that the grading will inspire other companies in the mining and energy sector to do more to create equity for all genders. “We aim to inspire beyond our commercial output. Our goal is to have a gender-balanced workforce and to achieve demographic parity,” she said.
Exxaro’s policies and structures work together to prevent discrimination, harassment and racism while protecting employees’ human rights. That’s why Exxaro’s diversity and inclusion strategy not only aligns with our vision and purpose but also with key legislation including the South African Constitution, National Gender Policy Framework and the UN Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women.
“Our impact at scale approach aims to maintain the momentum of transformation, focusing on women, youth and people living with disabilities,” adds Dr Nombasa.

EXXARO VOTED 2nd BEST MINING COMPANY BY TOP EMPLOYER IN SA FOR 2023 TOP GRADUATES
Exxaro was voted the second-best mining company to work for by South Africa’s top graduates at the 2022 Momentum Metropolitan GradStar Students’ Choice Awards, for the second year running.
The Students’ Choice Awards, which took place at the Indaba Hotel in Johannesburg in December 2022, rates the top companies that tertiary students most want to work for, based on a survey completed by thousands of tertiary graduates.
The Awards form part of the greater GradStar Awards Programme, which identifies the most talented tertiary-level students across South Africa. During the entry process, applying students answer questions relating to their employer of choice and name their top five employers to work for, based on their own perceptions and experiences. This year’s survey received over 7 000 responses and over 24 000 unique answers. The Top 100 students of 2022 hand over the awards to the winners at the glittering awards dinner, which brings all the top employers and top graduates together.
