HOW THE NEW S&BT UNIT IS
SHAPING EXXARO’S FUTURE

How does Exxaro transform into the business it wants to be in the future? With the strategic insight and support of the newly formed Strategy and Business Transformation (S&BT) unit.

Exxaro’s future growth will require us to transform the way we work and how we create value for our broader stakeholders. That’s where the S&BT unit steps in to help identify, nurture and enable transformation across relevant parts of the business through its transformation and strategy enablement. In this way S&BT seeks to be “the spark that will position Exxaro today to create our  desired tomorrow,” says Alexander de Angelis, Executive Head Strategy and Business Transformation.

To do this, the new unit helps identify signals that present potential threats and/or opportunities to the business in the future. It has a Business Ventures unit that is focused on understanding these signals as well as converting them into insights that will lead to decisions and actions that support Exxaro’s future growth and impact.

This newly formed unit is living the transformation they aim to create. Every member of the team comes from other areas within Exxaro, and are therefore used to very different roles and ways of working. They’ve come together to leverage their diverse skills and to find new ways of working. If anything, the team is testament to the enormous pool of talent and development capabilities that we have in Exxaro, having already demonstrated the value they can offer the business.

Top S&BT highlights in 2021

Directing and supporting the rollout of the Exxaro Leadership Way (ELW), which is a key enabler to our Sustainable Growth and Impact (SG&I) Strategy.

Establishing an approach to create exposure to future growth and impact opportunities (Horizon three opportunities) for Exxaro through Exxaro Business Ventures.

Embedding a refined strategy process to better integrate foresight, strategy and risk across our business, and support the execution and enablement of strategy with the other parts of Exxaro.

With these achievements already under their belt, the S&BT team will use 2022 to focus on creating greater clarity on what is being done and still needs to be done to achieve its strategic objectives to enable Exxaro’s Sustainable Growth and Impact Strategy.

And they don’t plan to do this alone. As a team of diverse talents and different perspectives, they recognise that there are many new and different ways of doing things. That’s why the team welcomes contributions from across the business as they help Exxaro to create resources that are powering a cleaner world.

PERFORMANCE ACHIEVEMENT TO CREATE
BETTER EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE

Performance is a key part of our culture and essential to “powering possibility”.

That’s why we’re excited to introduce Performance Achievement – a new process that will help improve the way performance is managed, making sure employees get
more support with added flexibility and ease of access.

Who is Performance Achievement for?

The process will focus mainly on the identified management and specialist category employees who qualify for the Group Incentive Scheme (GIS) and will align to the pay for performance principle through a 20% contribution.

The Performance Achievement process will be implemented in 2022, following the completion of information sessions that will make sure all impacted parties are aware,
informed and ready to benefit from this more efficient process.
