Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) is not just some cultural buzz word. It’s a dynamic and inclusive journey that will transform the way we do business and enable Exxaro to “empower our people to create impact”, as part of our Sustainable Growth & Impact business strategy. That’s why, on 27 February, we proudly launched our revised DE&I strategy to the business at the conneXXion and virtually for all employees, with every attendee offering applause and support for the journey ahead.
Dr Nombasa, Exxaro’s first female CEO, highlighted the true value and impact of a DE&I strategy saying, “Let this not be a celebration but rather a reawakening to the
natural instincts of our human nature and seeing each other as equal, where nothing matters but the two green XX’s that make us Exxaro.”
What is DE&I?
As a discipline, DE&I is a policy designed to make sure that all people feel welcome and empowered by ensuring they have the support they need to perform to the best of their abilities in the workplace.
What does DE&I mean to Exxaro?
DE&I is the foundation of our equitable approach to building communities through a representative workforce and a culture
where all employees are valued and included and feel free to bring their whole self to work. That’s why our revised DE&I strategy recognises the value of diverse voices and emphasises inclusivity and employee wellbeing as the foundation for our success as a business. It also emphasises the importance of transforming our supply chain on this journey.
What’s next in our DE&I strategy?
Our revised strategy will take us on a journey, engaging with multiple internal programmes and initiatives that will actively make our operations and business units more diverse, equitable and inclusive.

How will our new DE&I strategy support our purpose?

Quoting Victor Hugo, Dr Nombasa reminded all who attended the launch that, “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come.” Indeed, the time has come for Exxaro’s transformation journey to create a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment that will have a positive impact on our people, our business and our communities, for generations to come.”
