EXXARO’S 2024  LUMINOUS LEGACY DINNER
 CELEBRATES PAST AND FUTURE

What is the legacy that Exxaro wants to leave behind for future generations? This was the question on everyone’s minds when Exxaro hosted its 2024 Luminous Legacy dinner for employees and stakeholders to celebrate Exxaro’s legacy, going back over 40 years, and looking to its future in renewable energy.

The dinner, held at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in Cape Town, marked the end of the 2024 Investing in African Mining Indaba, giving guests the perfect opportunity to reflect on the state of the mining industry and Exxaro’s role in creating a legacy that is not dependent on fossil fuels.

“A company that is in transition, a company that has gained its profits from a fossil fuel has a responsibility globally to make sure that the people of the world do not experience what fossil fuels are doing as far as climate change is concerned.”
Dr Nombasa Tsengwa, Exxaro CEO

“Exxaro is not only about our employees, it’s about the ecosystem community in which we operate. It’s about how we are connecting with them and how we making sure that they are resilient.”
Kgabi Masia, Exxaro’s Chief Coal Operations Officer

In between the formalities, the message of the event was clear – Exxaro is determined to leave a lasting legacy that speaks to the sustainable impact of our people, communities and country.

EXXARO MTB ACADEMY RIDERS
SHINE AT 2024 ABSA CAPE EPIC

The Exxaro MTB Academy riders did the Exxaro name proud at the 2024 Absa Cape Epic, with all the riders battling the tough terrains and backbreaking mountains to finish with smiles on their faces.

Covering 700 kilometres over eight gruelling days, including a staggering 16 000 meters of uphill climbs, there is good reason why this race is viewed as the most epic mountain bike challenge in the world and a highlight on the cycling calendar.

Congratulations to Halalisani Ndebele, Siyanda Gumede, Yomelela Mfazwe, and Ongezo Mini for clinching the Exxaro Men’s and Women’s Jerseys respectively. These jerseys symbolise more than just fabric— they signify opportunity, empowerment, and the emergence of new cycling talents from marginalised communities.

A huge congratulations to all the riders who pushed their limits on this year’s treacherous trails.

What is the Exxaro MTB Academy?
The Exxaro MTB Academy is a shining example of how Exxaro is “powering possibility” by supporting and enabling young people in historically disadvantaged communities to live their dreams through hard work, passion and determination. In screening, training, and developing them, the Academy helps young people to fulfil their dreams, and through those dreams, help them to rebuild their communities.
