EXXARO TALENT RISES TO THE CHALLENGE AT PIT SYMPOSIUM
What do you get when you challenge Exxaro’s top development talent to solve some of the most urgent business challenges? A whole lot of innovative ideas and even more creative teamwork!
That’s what happens every year at the Professionals-in-Training (PIT) Symposium – an annual highlight of Exxaro’s talent development programme. Young, dynamic professionals are tasked to come up with ground-breaking practical solutions that will help fulfil our purpose of “Powering Better Lives in Africa and Beyond”.
And this year didn’t disappoint.
A huge congratulations to our team winners, The Bomb Squad, and our overall individual winner, Mbally Sibanyoni.
Team Winner: The Bomb Squad
Project: The Hydrogen Energy Economy
The project introduces Exxaro to the Hydrogen Energy Economy value chain and identifies Exxaro-specific business opportunities. A green business plan means sustainability and a decarbonised future, benefitting not only Exxaro but the world we inhabit and all in it. The team: Katlego Mokwena, Altus Bisschoff, Thembinkosi Zulu, Chervania Naidoo,Dineo Buthelezi.
Individual Winner: Mbally Sibanyoni
Project: Belfast Magnetite Consumption – ‘Back to Basics’
The project identified that medium loss accounts for about 20% of the plant’s operational expenses. As a result, magnetite consumption is critical in evaluating the economics of any coal preparation plant. A low magnetite consumption rate is vital to keep the cost of coal beneficiation low and with the high-grade coal that the Belfast dense medium separation plant produces, magnetite consumption control is key.
