#WOMENAREUS:
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WIM INDABA

On 5 September, Exxaro women came together for the 2024 Women in Mining (WIM) Indaba. The event, themed “Inspire Inclusion, Invest in Women, and Accelerate Progress,” celebrated the essential role of women in advancing our collective goals and future ambitions.

WIM Indaba Coordinator Sherlonia Bosman opened the event by highlighting the journey and achievements of Women in Mining, focusing on initiatives that empower women and transform our workplaces and communities. “Through our Women in Mining programmes and gender transformation efforts, we are breaking barriers and building a future where equality and opportunity are realities,” Bosman shared. She also introduced the #WomenAreUs Movement, launched by our CEO, Dr Nombasa, to elevate WIM efforts from transformation to sustainable social impact, with strategic support and sponsorship.

Representing the Men’s Forum, Ibandla, Takalani Tshisevhe added, “Investing in women is not just a moral imperative but an economic strategy that accelerates progress for all. When women succeed, entire communities thrive—they drive innovation, create jobs, and foster growth.”

Our guest speaker inspired attendees with her journey of self-care and authenticity:

“Self-care is close to self-love. I did not just survive life, I lived it. Go out there, live your life, and remember, authenticity is the best outfit you can rock.”
Caster Semenya

A panel discussion featuring Caster Semenya, DJ Lamiez Holworthy-Morule, and our Chief Technology Officer, Johan Meyer, provided insights into self-empowerment, leaving everyone motivated to pursue growth and self-discovery. The Matla Choir added a vibrant touch to the event.

Our Chief People and Performance Officer, Joseph Rock, concluded with, “The insights shared today reinforce the powerful truth that when women lead, we all benefit. Celebrate who you are and know you are exactly as intended.”

The day ended with DJ Lamiez energising the crowd. Attendees received copies of Caster Semenya’s book as a token of appreciation, making the event a memorable testament to the importance of investing in women.
