In 2021, Belfast Digital and Connected Mine also supported education by:
Donating to all 11 identified ECD centres, as part of the Mandela Day. Each centre received a fridge, carpet, polar fleece blankets for children, laptop, printer, and a projector.
Donating 330 career expo books.

Grootegeluk Mine donates stationary packs to Lephalale Municipality
Grootgeluk Mine recently donated 120 stationery packs to the Lephalale Municipality to ensure learners in its host communities were properly equipped to start the school year. The stationery drive, which is one of many educational interventions that Exxaro is driving within the local community, included a donation from Exxaro employees (ie the Technical Support Service Department). The packs contained glue sticks, pens, flip files and many other items that are essential to helping “provide quality education and lifelong learning”.
In 2021, Grootgeluk supported education by:
Enabling 1 424 learners to have free eye tests. Of these, 44 learners were identified with visual impairments and fitted with prescription spectacles by qualified optometrists.
Supporting grade 12 learners’ academic camps in Lephalale, contributing towards improving learner attainment. The camps benefited 300 grade 12 learners from the three circuits, to the value of R1 million.
Donating 90 food parcels to less fortunate school leaners in the Palala South, Palala North and Ellisras Circuit.
Supporting and funding four learners in their university studies (including study materials) from the Lephalale Local Municipality Fund.
Engaging with Sedibeng special school in Lephalale to identify their needs and the potential sponsorship of the metal work programme and other programmes for 2022, including culinary and entrepreneurship.
Supporting the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) female students from second year of study in the engineering field. Fifteen students from Grootgeluk were funded in 2021 to the value of R400 000.

Leeuwpan
Offered free eye tests to all the children from Swartkip, Delpark and Khangela Primary Schools in Delmas. Of these,65 children were provided with prescription glasses to help improve their learning abilities.
Handed out 107 dignity packs to the children of the Phaphamani Secondary School, in Botleng, as part of Mandela Day.
Donated 100 pairs of shoes to the business unit for distribution to needy leaners.
Donated 160 career expo books.
