“Congratulations on your retirement. You have accomplished so much over your career! We are going to miss your guidance, positive attitude and most of all, your laughter.”
Tsholofelo, Legal Department

“Exxaro is in my blood. I don’t think I’ll ever get it out of my blood.”
Mxolisi Mgojo
These are fitting words from Mxolisi Mgojo, who has given his blood, sweat and tears to building Exxaro into the company that it is today.
It’s hard to believe that our visionary leader, who has led Exxaro since 2016 and whose vote and vision was instrumental in forming Exxaro back in 2006, never meant to go into mining.
As Sipho Nkosi, former Exxaro CEO, and mentor to Mgojo reminds us: “He knew nothing about mining, but he was willing to learn and understand and offer himself so that he could do the best for the organisation.”
Nkosi speaks very highly of Mgojo’s humility and willingness to learn and grow, from the ground up. “He was the first one to go and work in the base metal section of Exxaro. He had this great vision for the future and what he wanted to do.”
Mgojo credits his career success and journey to his faith in God and knowing that there was a bigger force directing his life. “I can’t separate my spirituality from my success.”
When Mgojo met Nkosi and was given the opportunity to build something great in Eyesizwe and then Exxaro, he asked himself only one question: “I have been given this great opportunity so how do I become a blessing to others?”
This is the kind of leader that Mxolisi Mgojo is – always seeking opportunities to serve the greater good and empower the people around him. “He has been a strong pillar in the field of black economic empowerment,” says Nkosi.
“Baba Nkosi taught me to just be who you are. Don’t try to be someone else and out of that you will find yourself and your strength.”
“To me the success of a company is not about the CEO. It’s about how the collective comes together to be aligned around a specific purpose and vision. And then purposefully enabling and allowing our people to be the best they can be.”
Thank you Mxolisi Mgojo for your inspired leadership that continues to inspire greatness in us all.
