On 1 April 2025, Exxaro officially welcomed our new CEO, Ben Magara, in a powerful inauguration event held at the conneXXion — with all our Business Units streaming in to celebrate, connect, and say hello. It was an energetic moment of unity, filled with song, dance, and heartfelt excitement across the group.
“I am thrilled to be joining Exxaro and to take Exxaro into the next chapter,” Ben shared with employees.“I stand for safety, good relationships, and integrity. We have a clear purpose in this company – to power better lives in Africa and beyond – and we’ll pursue that purpose with unwavering commitment. You can count me in that commitment.”
Ben’s message resonated deeply as he called on all of us to do the best work of our lives together and to continue building a workplace rooted in trust, excellence, and impact.

Listening, Learning, Leading – The CEO Roadshows
Immediately following the inauguration, Ben hit the ground running – embarking on a CEO Roadshow from 2 – 4 April to meet the people who make Exxaro what it is. His first week in office took him to our operations:
- 2 April – Belfast and Mafube
- 3 April – Matla and Leeuwpan
- 4 April – Grootegeluk
At each stop, he connected with employees face to face, listened to their stories, heard their insights, and reaffirmed his commitment to safety, excellence, and inclusive leadership.
“No job is too important to do if it’s unsafe,” he told employees. “If it’s not safe, do not do it – not in my name, not in yours either. But if it is safe, do it in my name, and do it proudly.”
The purpose of the roadshows was clear: to hear directly from the people on the ground – what’s working, what’s not, and how we can elevate together. In every engagement, Ben conveyed his excitement for this journey with Exxaro and his belief that the best is yet to come.
Employees received him with open arms, voices lifted in song, and powerful words of encouragement – a true reflection of Exxaro’s spirit of unity, pride, and people-first culture.
